This is a tricky one. I am not sure if your mum can force you to have it done or not. She certainly has a say in what happens but if you are refusing to have it done at the clinic, then the doctors can't hold you down and force you to have it.
There are many people like yourself who have a real phobia against needles. Explain this to your mum and tell her your fears asking her to inform the doctor who can put some cream on the area they are going to take the blood from which will numb it for you. You won't feel the needle going in, but you will feel the pressure of what they are doing.
Having any injection does hurt for a split second but that is it!! the actual removal of the blood doesn't hurt at all, it just feels a little odd and the best way to deal with it, is to take a deep breath and look away.
A good thing to practice for yourself is to pull out a single hair from your eyebrow with a pair of tweezers. If you can do this yourself, then having a needle in your arm to do a test which is very important will be easy for you!!
Good luck and don't panic, it really isn't as bad as you might think!!

Chill girl.
I was afraid of needles all my life and then became diabetic. Try giving yourself 4 shots a day in the stomach.
The needles they use today are a smaller size and if you get the right nurse she can tap the vein and you will never feel a thing. BIG SECRET do not tense up your arm. you can wind up anything else in your body, squeeze your toes, make a fist or anything else but do NOT tense up your arm.
The needle is a small diameter razor sharp item coated in a silicon lubricant. It is made to be as painless as possible. If you tighten up though you have just made it 1000 times harder to go through the skin in into the vein (this actually applies more to muscle shots but still applies here too).
Sit down and tell the nurse you are afraid of the needle and she will take care of you. Good luck.

Anemia results from having a low iron count in your blood. It can be reversed by eating more foods rich in iron (red meat is a good source) or taking vitamins with iron. Since you are under 18, your mother is in charge of your medical care and has the ultimate choice as to whether or not you have the test. Since you have such a great fear of needles, it might be a good thing for you to get the test done because maybe if you get pricked and see it is not so bad you can overcome your fear. For almost any medical problem you have in the rest of your life you will need to be stuck with a needle at some point, so it is best to overcome the fear while young.

You will have to have the needle. It seems worse than it is. I've been having blood tests throughout my life and I have been giving myself insulin injections since I was 9 years old. The fear fades and the pain is so short and insignificant. It is a brief prick that lasts a very small part of a second. On a scale of 0-10 I would give the pain rating only a 2. Don't worry ok.

Think about it this way---Anemia if left undiagnosed can be life threatening. What is worse? Having a 30 second needle prick to draw blood to test you or losing your life? It's only a needle, and it only hurts for a second, once the needle is in, you can't feel the blood being drawn. No worries, you'll be fine! Just take a deep breath and relax, and it'll be over before you know it-----and it could save your life. Good luck, girl!

You do need the blood test to get an accurate blood count so they know how to treat you. You can request a topical anesthetic be used (Lidocaine maybe)to numb the area before they draw blood. It's really quite painless. After the initial poke-you're home-free! I've been getting 3 allergy / 2weeks or more for most of my life and you get used to it. Talk this over with your mom. I'll bet you can come to some kind of an agreement about your dislike of needles :). Take a deep breath, relax and think about something pleasant. You can do this!!

Just try and relax, It will be ok. Don't look at the Lab Tech when they are doing it and take some deep breaths. If you close your eyes that might help too. If you are anemic, then you really should have the blood test done. It's not that bad.
