Take him or her to dinner and a movie or something cute like that , or A Pretty picture of you and the person in a handmade picture frame and i mean made by you try to be original. A little fish in a tank or a serenade its cheesy but fun!!!! Happy new Year

Don't buy them anything, make them something. Think of something they might have talked about that was special to them and work with that. Or try taking them somewhere to do something they haven't done in a long time - like to petting zoo if they like animals, or to a museum is they like art. Expereinces are priceless.

you can never have everything.. id go for something small but meaningful there the best gifts for me and specially if there hand made e.g. My ex gave me a drawing of a white tiger which he himself drew since he new that was my favourite animal

Something that is completely silly and out of sync with everything that they have, or something that is different. For example, suppose that they like plants and flowers. Get them a big bag of potting soil.

Something that is unique. It doesn't have to cost a lot of money. You can make something yourself and gift that. They might appreciate the heart that you've put into something like that.
