First off let me say I am gay so no one thinks I am a basher. I believe that gays should have the same rights as everyone else but that the institution of marriage should be strictly a heterosexual ceremony.
This is my reason why:
Why would anyone, including myself want to be wed by an institution (the church) that condemns the act of homosexuality. This is hypocrisy.
I think that homosexuals deserve the same rights as heterosexuals but that homosexual marriage should be called a civil union.

Chanunu, if the constitution was based on the bible --there should have never been slavery. The framers of the constitution had the opportunity to stamp out slavery when they wrote it; however, because so many of them owned slaves, they decided not to touch the subject.
The constitution provides for enumerable rights --rights that are not listed in the constitution because they'd still be writing it today. The framers had no idea that all of the historical things that have happened would happen. That's why the constitution is consistenly being amended.
I have yet to see an answer as to what "compelling interest" the state or Congress have in regulating marriage. To reproduce is not a good answer gay men and lesbians can have children -- just not in the traditional way and there are some heterosexual couples have to have kids the same way -- artificial insemination.
Religious organizations that don't believe in same-sex marriage, they don't have to perform the ceremonies. There are plenty of GLBT Licensed and Ordained Clergy that will gladly perform these ceremonies -- and I am one and there are also non-gay clergy that will perform the ceremonies as well.
Many people's minds just stop when the words same-sex marriage materializes, they don't think of all the rights they have as a heterosexual couple that same sex couples don't have.
For example, husband marries a woman that his family never liked. Hsband dies, husband family comes in and tries to take over the house and take things from the wife. This will never happen because the wife is the legal heir to anything she and her husband have accumulated -- the husband's family can't get anything.
Now flip side -- same-sex couple have been together for 10 years, own a home, one of the partners die. This partners family comes in and puts the other partner out of the house, take over the estate -- partne has no claim -- unless they have an airtight estate planning contract and the house and deed are in both their names. This has happened to many couples and nothing they can do about it unless the surviving spouse has money for lawyers to fight his partners parents. These are the rights we want and should have.

I think they should have the same rights as any woman or man do. Because that what every gay person is either a man or a woman. Why should they have to pass laws saying that if you are living or with another person of the same sex, that you don't have rights. What about love?? don't you think a person of the same sex, male or female, could love another person of the same sex? So therefore I do believe in gay rights simply because we are human beings just like every other human being on the planet

Everyone deserves the rights in which are in our Constitution. I'm gay and all for it.
And for Shamu, or whatever your name is, our country & Constitution wasn't based or started on religion. And another thing its not against nature or the bible, people who take things out of context and who are bigots think its against the bible. Anyone who qoutes scriptures from Leviticus, doesn't even know that was meant for israelites. And if you truly read the bible instead of taking it our of context and picking and choosing scriptures like it was a buffet then you would know that theres nothing wrong with being gay, no matter what passage you read or qoute.
Christians like yourself need to study more and stop being hypocrites and shoving your BS down everyones throats, in the Constitution it says you have the right to practice, and to free speech, but not everyone believes or needs someone who know one even knows exist. And please think next time before you speak, you poor uneducated bigot, your wealth of ignorance astounds me. Please stay in the Christian section, thats what its there for.

Everyone has the right to do anything as long as they aren't hurting someone else. Gay love as harmful as straight love--- the main casualty are a few broken hearts and few morons who misunderstand what love is. Gay people should have the right to be as they are--- oppressing and repressing them will only cause troubled marriages between gays and straights!

First of all, no one can tell us who to love and who not to love. That would be absurd. You are referring to gay rights, as in, the rights gays have as people such as not being discriminated against. I think you probably meant this anyway (sorry for snapping). Anyway, yes I do believe everyone should have the same rights regardless of gender, race, and sexual orienation. We are human beings, we should be treated as such.

I think it's sad that gay people should need special 'rights' If they were just accepted into society like anyone else then they would just be covered by HUMAN rights!

The same way I feel about anybody who feels they need to prove their point by slobbering all over their partner in public. Go home and be gay, no one really cares if you want AIDS. But the struggle to make gay the norm is not only sickening its offensive and public displays of affection or public proclaimation of sexual orientation should be prosecuted.
And you don't need a marriage certificate to love someone btw. Especially if you're loving them in a gay way because marriage is a religious thing anyways and gays fall short there in the first place.
