I am only 4 weeks and the risk of miscarriage is so high during the first trimester. Like most other expectant parents, we are absolutely thrilled to be pregnant, but want to know what we can to do keep our baby as safe and healthy as possible.

Well, as hard as this may be, the first thing you need to do is *relax*!! Stress is bad not only for you, but for the baby. I know you're worried about a miscarriage, but the best thing you can do for that baby is to not dwell on the negative possibilities!

Next, eat healthy, sleep, and follow your OB's orders and your pregnancy will likely turn out fine. Other than that, sometimes there's really no way to prevent a miscarriage.

Miscarriage in the first trimester is usually caused by genetic problems that don't allow the fetus to mature further. It's pretty much impossible to stop genetic chromosomal problems with the embryo and fetus.

I guess you shouldn't smoke though because that does increase the chance of miscarriage. Same goes for drinking and other drugs too but I'm sure you already knew that.

there is no reason why u should have a miscarriage, it is actually quite difficult to miscarry from anything u might do, its usually down to a problem with the fetus, and there isNOTHING u can do about that. However, stress can really cause problems as it makes all your now soft muscles tense. Then theres the obvious such as not smoking, drinking, drugs etc. But really, if its gonna happen theres not much u can do about it Im afraid, your best bet is to remain stress-free and focus on the positive ALL the time. Good luck xx

Listen to your Doc, don't lift ANYTHING heavy(including heavy loads of laundy), eat healthy, get plenty of rest and sleep, take your prenatal vitamins, drink lots of water(helps to keep the swelling down), get some mild excersise(walking--and only if Doc says it is okay), and don't stress, your baby knows what it is doing in there, all you have to do is let it grow, and don't forget to relax. Cravings are okay, but becareful to keep everything in moderation.

Enjoy your new developing baby.

Good luck and congratulations
