U can format the hard drive. If running windows xp, just create a new user name (one ur going to use) and delete all the other user names on there. deleting those user names will also you to delete any files that are associated with those user names. u would also want to go to the control panel, then add/remove programs, and delete any programs that you probably wont use.

The nuclear option is always just to reinstall Windows completely, which anyone should do before they pass a used machine into someone else anyway. Get your Windows CD, stick it in the drive, reboot the machine and follow the prompts and you'll have a fresh (and faster) clean install of Windows in no time.

There are all kinds of software programs that promise to rewrite 10 times, etc. I am sorry but I just don't trust it. Take the hard drive out, destroy it, and then give the computer away. Hard drive capacity is so cheap any chap who wants the computer will gladly buy another.

Just start from scratch and replace the hard drive. Any future questions and/or software problems and you can be proud to say that they are all your own,. Good ruck!

You can buy/download software that will do a low-level reformat, or you could use a very powerful magnet.

In both cases you will need to reinstall an operating system.

If you still have the Windows CD, I would just reformat and reinstall windows.
That should clean everything and start fresh.
