same reason blacks stereo type us

2006-12-27 09:24:41 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 1 2

everyone stereotypes all types of people it's not just black-white/white-black. It must be human nature of some sort. No matter how open minded a few select individuals can be, for some reason everyone seems to listen to those who are most short sighted. Just don't stereotype and even though it's agitating to be stereotyped don't sweat it. I'm cajun and sicilan and there's a whole bunch of smack talked about each side. But you know what? I know what's true and what's not, so to hell with those who think differently.

That's a stereotype in itself, you know. I think stereotypes are a conglomeration of media and environmental experience (both personally learned and taught). Some stereotypes are very negative while some tend to have a purely comical or even positive tint to them. Whether any of these cause personal offense depends upon the individual. The simple fact is that stereotyping is not going anywhere, but at least it isn't the same as racism.

It seems regional. I haven't been around a lot of stereotyping, though I just saw a show last night where one of the ladies being interviewed mentioned that they still have a "white prom" and a "black prom" and they even have different school buses! I was SHOCKED! I do think a lot of my friends who identify themselves as African-American are defensive and assume many of the "white people" are sterotyping them, but who could blame them after what has transpired through history, not to mention even during the past few years! So answering your question, I think it has a lot to do with fundamentalist religious groups, the older generations, regional issues (i.e. Bible belt), and socio-economic issues. One of the best things I like to say to bigots who tell me about all of "those poor people in the neighborhood, those blacks and Mexicans, you know..." I like to say "no, I don't have many poor people in my neighborhood fitting that description, just a bunch of white trailer trash". I know it isn't PC, nor do I believe it, I just want them to understand what it sounds like when they say something that stupid.

Its hard not to stereotype. its just something we have to condition ourselves not to do and that everything is a case by case basis. I get stereotyped all the dang time but Ive learned to live with it. Every race always has a group of people who make the rest of them look bad. My people arent doing so well in the media and I feel an extreme burden on me to try to prove that I am NOT like those disgraces to my race.

If you ask me, it goes both ways these days. I've seen lots of black people insult white people too. It's just general discrimination between all races and sometimes in one race (I've heard some black people call other black people the N word before.) It's annoying.

Why do black people stereo type white people so much? everyone has something to say whether your latino, black, white,or whatever. So its not like you can blame one group of people.
