As to the first response, I do care about what's going on in the government. Anyone who's actually knowledgeable in this subject is greatly appreciated...:)

The Echelon system was put into place in 1996 by Clinton to track all emails and phone messages. It's supposed to just check for bad guys, but who knows what they do with all that data. I think they use computers to track specific word combinations that could pose a problem to our leaders. I'm not sure why Clinton did all that snooping. It's not like he was looking for terrorists or anything like that.

The most recent spying has been the tapping of terrorists phoning known Al Qaeda operatives. This has been considered a violation of their rights by the ACLU, so maybe we won't be doing that anymore. (even though it's warded off hundreds of terrorist attacks already.)

No. It's your neighbor or the guy down the block you have to worry about. I've been hearing nightmares about the picture phones putting pictures no one should see on the Internet and selling them. Then you can get on google and they go thru sattilight and it enables you to zoom into anybodies yard and anyone can know more about your back yard than you! Considering that anyone can get into your private life like criminal and financial records free or for a small fee has me a lot more worried than homeland security. Have you ever applied for anything and they can pull up all of your personal information, I had one at a fair trying to sell Nascar credit cards. Gave them my name and they seem to know all about me.At least homeland is trying to keep you safe.

You betcha! And it will only grow. If you want an idea of where we could be headed, I suggest reading some of the popular Science fiction of the mid '60s. Fictional stories, yes. But based on fact.

I don't know. Are you breaking any laws? Why should you truly care if you are on the up and up?

Oh my goodness!! Do you think they know I went to the grocery store today, then to work and then went home and relaxed? Holy cow!! If I would have known this I would have been screaming about my personal liberties being violated!!! Do you think they know how much I spent at Christmas too? That just disgusting.

What's to know? Most of us lead ordinary lives. Felons are already in the computers, and people with "sensitive" jobs have Security Clearances anyway. So, let them look.
