I know it's not a total "ban", but most Dems are for embryonic stem cell research. I want to take a more aggressive role in this election to promote this as a major topic. Any mature, constructive suggestions?

No ban? I thought stem cells were only able to be used if obtained before August of 2001, along with the no support from taxes? I'll look into it more, thanks.

Stem cell research is not banned, just the federal funding of the research.

1995 - President Bill Clinton signs into law the Dickey Amendment which prohibited Federally appropriated funds to be used for research where human embryos would be either created or destroyed.

19 July, 2006 - President George W. Bush vetoes H.R. 810 (Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act), a bill that would have reversed the Clinton-era law which made it illegal for Federal money to be used for research where stem cells are derived from the destruction of an embryo.

You need to do more research on embryonic stem cell and become educated. Look to professionals in the field of stem cell research and I think you'll be amazed by what they have to say.
Summary: no productive results from embryonic stem cell research, adult yes, embryonic no.
There is no ban on the research in the US, there is just no taxpayer funding for it.
