I hear you. I swear I've been at the wrong funeral at times. You are sitting there listening to this preacher talk about a woman who didn't take care of her children, let men knock her around her whole life and drank herself to death and suddenly she's the virgin Mary!!! What a crock of crap!

I believe it's out of respect but I know several people who passed on and they were definitely not hailed as saints. It was very hard to find even a few nice things that the people did.

Because humans instinctively want to have good memories. When we think of something fondly, believe it or not, there are hormones released in our brains that make us feel good. It is a kind of euphoria for us. When we think of something bad, we have the opposite reaction. Bad things tend to make people feel ill and/or upset, and since people don't like feeling that way, they don't go out of their way to do so.

So, we remember the good things about them because it makes us feel good. And if there's something good that involves us personally, it makes us feel doubly good.

It's called hypocrisy. My dad was a jackass when he was alive and his death didn't change a thing. I've heard people say"Don't speak ill of the dead." I say tell the truth about them alive or dead.

if you do, they could come back and haunt you.
