I broke my ankle in 4 places and had surgery. The best place for me to sleep was in a recliner that was fully reclined. I tucked pillows all around me and could sleep on my back or side pretty well. I NEVER was able to sleep in a chair previous to this, but it sure worked well!! I had a fan on in the room for "white noise" and I slept like a baby! It helped elevate it, too. I took a muscle relaxer or pain pill right before I went to bed and that helped me relax and sleep better, too.

I broke my leg when I was a kid and in order to sleep, I had to lay on my back and prop the leg up on several pillows. If you try this, make sure that the pillows are long enough to completely support the leg and go under the knee as well. If you just support the leg and not the knee then your knee will become locked. Holding the knee in a locked position for a prolonged period of time results in a very stiff and painful knee!

what ever position you normally sleep in is likely what will work best. Simply prop the casted leg well with pillows both on either side and between your legs and you may be more comfy.

I shattered my knee and know where you're coming from. Elevate your leg and sleep on your side or your back and it will help. One or two pillows under your ankle or knee will help, depending on where the fracture is.
