You need to learn safe procedures when working with chemicals especially concentrated acids. I worked in a chem lab and accidents do happen. You cab get the chemicals from most companies supplying schools so ask for the address from a science instructor. There may be age requirements. If you do get the acid, remember it is always A to Z. Acid is always added to the Water-- not the other way around.

If it doesn't need to be pure sulfuric acid, but just containing acid then many drain cleaning products use H2SO4. You can also find Sodium Hydroxide (lye) a strong base used as a main ingredient in many drain products. Just be aware that it can be dangerous to mix the two types together! Hobby shops will often sell small strips of steel, brass, and copper for little projects.

As for the sulfuric acid, you can get it at your local hardware store, but you will have to fill out paperwork telling the government how much you are buying and what it will be used for. It is not hard to find, I used two gallons of it not long ago to clean the garage floor before I painted it.

Ask your science teacher, they maybe able to provide the needed chemicals to you. If is turns out to be a safety reason by which they cannot provide you with the chemicals, ask them if you could perform the experiment in the school lab or whatnot, so that you can use the chemicals.
