Is the written translation that scrolls at the bottom of a television show done by a person or machine?

I frequently see mistakes in the translations that scroll by at the bottom of a tv show. Someone at my gym told me it's done by voice recognition software. Sometimes the mistakes are corrected in the next sentence, however- almost as if a person had gone back and re-typed it.

I feel that the "crawler" on the bottom of your screen is actually typed by someone, hence the misspellings and mistakes.

Technically it is done by a person and a machine. The person types it, using a machine.
