This is a good book. You should read it on your own. There is a lot in the book and a summary just won't suffice.
P.S. Watching the movie won't help, either. The book is more detailed.

The book was made into a movie with Jake G. in it. It was about him and his friends making rockets. I have a feeling you are doing a project on this book, correct? Tell me if I am mistaken. Well Homer is all about rockets and building them. His dad is a coal
miner and Homer dreams of a better life than coal mining so he takes
an interest in rockets and space after seeing a Russian rocket on the
tele.Homer becomes a success after being encouraged by his teacher
also wins a science fair and is eventually supported by a few town folk
his dreams are being realized, but then his dad gets injured and Homer
takes his place in the mine. All in all his rocket dreams make for a happy ending when he becomes a success.

read the books it's really a good book, but if you want a really generalized version, you can watch the movie, I thought they were both great, but the movie leaves a lot out...
