It was Lebanon. The Phoenician were expert sailors and shipbuilders who explored the entire Mediterranean and founded Carthage. Unfortunately they cut down the great cedar forests to support their exploration. The desert encroached on the cleared forests and the only remaining cedar is on the Flag
