Once again I feel I have done nothing wrong! Shouldn't Yahoo Answers at least READ what was said BEFORE implimenting disciplinary actions? This is becoming tiresome. There are many on the program who report anything that they don't agree with. Something should be done to end this behavior. It's not the points...it's the principle. I have enjoyed my time here but I am growing weary of the ones who are censoring harmless comments. Your help will be most appreciated.

I agree that it is frustrating. I had a question removed because I was asking for opinions rather than for a factual answer. I know who reported it, because he did it in response to my reporting him for a response that he posted to one of my questions, in which he included various insults and foul language.

I do think, however, that it is a bit unreasonable to fault Yahoo! for the form emails that they send out, and the lack of any thorough review of the questions that they remove. Not that I am defending them or anything, as they seem to be unable to do simple math in figuring out my percentage of best answers to total answers, they always screw me by at least 2-3%, oh well. I am, however, saying that there are tens of thousands of people who use Yahoo! answers, so there are likely hundreds if not thousands of complaints per day. If they maintained staff solely for the review of complaints, then they would likely have to charge for the use of Y! answers. I, for one, would rather get the service for free and deal with the occasional over-censorship. Also, you have to consider that Yahoo! took a pretty good beating over the use of their chat rooms this past year, so I can understand their overly cautious approach to pretty much anything.

In response to those who would say that it is ridiculous that some obviously offensive things stay up while obviously benign things get taken down, I would say that the fault is on those who fail to report the offensive stuff, as all Y! users know by now that Y! pretty much deletes that which is reported, and does nothing about that which is not.

We enter into the Y! answers world knowing that there isn't the thorough review of everything that is posted, or else this wouldn't be free (or as fun). We also enter into the Y! answers world knowing that Y! has reason to be a little overly-cautious these days. It is for these reasons that I think that it is a bit unreasonable to seriously complain about these things. I do, however, agree that it feels good to vent about Yahoo! once in a while...as they can be pretty annoying...but you get what you pay for.

I'm encountering the same problem. I had a question removed and was sent a form email. When I replied that I didn't understand what guideline I had violated I recieved yet another form email.

I know they are form emails because a reply of mine that was admittedly somewhat snide was reported as "not an answer." I again emailed Y!a to assert that my response was, in fact, a response and recieved the same form email.

So long story short, these people don't care, they don't read the posts that they remove and they censor at the behest of anyone who emails in with a complaint. I guess you can take some solace that the offended party had to take 5 minutes out of their life to get you censored.

True, but it is a big system and that makes it difficult to control.

I have received an email saying that my answer was not an answer or question. Silly perhaps, humorous I thought, but then humor is a personal thing. Can't take it personally, you have to consider that the people who asked the silly question are upset that they're getting silly answers. Go figure.

As far as bigoted or sexist content you report it in turn and hope that it disappears eventually as the novelty of posting wears off if everything is post is tagged.

I agree, totally. I do think that postings that are inappropriate, sexually explicit, ethnic slurs, i,e, should be censored, but many quesitions and answers that are appropriate are being censored. Shame on Yahoo for not doing a better job. The violation responses are automated, not read - someone just pushes a button - Unfair.

I posted a harmless question about Santa yesterday - within an hour it was gone. Racist and Sexist comments are still around. I responded to Yahoo to question the policy and they basically told me they can take it down without rhyme or reason.

I feel the same way you do.

It sucks, that's for sure, and it's happened to me. Funny thing is, I just copy the "violation" post, log in with a different name, and repost it. Amazingly enough, usually the second time I post it, it doesn't get reported. Go figure.
