The keyword in your question is 'overseas'. A student who has lived here all their life has more than likely had parents who have paid taxes and will more than likely get a job in this country and end up paying taxes, all of which subsidises the cost.

The foreign students subsidise the education of the domestic students. All this about their parents paying taxes etc is a lot of BS as more often than not the domestic students will work abroad after college and pay taxes in the country they work in and not in their country of birth. We are talking about a Flat world wherein people worth their salt may find themselves working in Japan or China or India or anywhere in the World. So this argument about repaying the cost of education by way of taxes while working holds no water at all.

two reasons -

1. there is no reason why the state should subsidise those who haven't contributed to the society by way of tax. So they should pay more, often at cost or at a profit to the education provider, to receive the service

2. they subsidize the local students. The Br govt is trying to make the system 'self-financed' by paying less money into it, that's why we need more from other sources.

sad but true.

Yes, I do agree that British Universities charged higher tuition fees especially for International students. Forget about UK Universities, try to search for better institutions with better academic reputations. How about US ? It's value of money rather than you spent your studies in UK. GBP is too high. USD is more friendly.

Or how about Germany ? France ? They're using EuroD and at least it slight lower than GBP. You may also went to Russia or how about Japan, Taiwan, Korea ? Those countries are well developed and of course their currencies are lower than GBP. Or you could come to Singapore, Australia or even New Zealand for lower fees but promise you good academic excellent.

The reasoning is based on the fact that international students and their parents do not pay government or federal taxes that support that country´s higher education system. Therefore, international students need to pay extra fees to make up for this disparity.

As well as the state subsidy reasons that others have mentioned, don't forget that the universities are also a business - they will make as much profit as they can from overseas students irrespective of the actual cost of tuition - it's just market forces. Britons will benefit from the overseas investment.

Oversees students pay the full cost of tuition, but UK students are subsidised by the state. There is no reason why the state should subsidise overseas students.
