You final statement is wrong.

The player is Dave WInfield, and that double was in the TOP of the 11th, game 6, in Atlanta, with the Blue Jays winning the game and the series when Otis Nixon couldn't squeeze pinch runner John Smoltz home from 3rd. Mike Timlin was the pitcher (his second major league save, but the first was in a meaningless game, the final game of the season, the day AFTER the Jays won the division), and Joe Carter was playing first base. Jimmy Key was the winning pitcher and Charlie Leibrant threw the pitch that Winfield hit for that double. It had gone into extra innings because Tom Henke couldn't hold the lead in the 9th. Duane Ward, David Wells and Todd Stotltemyre had already pitched in relief in that game for Toronto.

Of course, If Terry Pendleton had been guarding the line, instead of played almost at short, that game would have gone on just about forever.

Sean McDonough's call was "For the first time in history, the World Series banner will fly north of the border."

St. Paul Minnesota's own David Winfield. He was drafted by the Vikings because of his size athletic ability, and Home Town status. He was also drafted by the NBA and now defunct ABA.
