Emo is basically emotion for short. It comes from the style of punk music. Music like screamo and metal have come from the style emo, but may not have kept the emotional part.
Bands considered to be emo:
Fall Out Boy
Panic! At the Disco
Dashboard Confessional
My Chemical Romance

Emo bands are like The Used, AFI, Chiodos, My Chemical Romance, etc. Im not emo i just know those names from my friend. Emo is basically emotional feelings like from one song..."my heart bleeds no more!" i heard it somewhere. so basically its emotional.
