You are going to hurt his feelings no matter how you tell him. However, that doesn't mean that you SHOULDN'T tell him. If you don't tell him straight up, you're just going to hurt him more.

Its like pulling off a band-aid, do it and do it quickly, but try to be as gentle as possible.

If he has romantic feelings for you and he put them out there and you don't have the same feelings for him, you really can't avoid hurting his feelings. The advise I have is that you have to tell him and be clear about it and don't go out of your way to make him feel better, I'm not trying to sound cold, but if you tell him you don't have the romantic feelings and then (since you care about him you will be feeling bad and wanting to comfort him) give him excessive attention, it could lead him on. I was in this same position. I am still friends with the guy (hes married now), have been for years, but I did hurt his feelings.

You dont. Either way his feelings are going to get hurt but better that then leading him on for years then telling him that all that time spent togather was a lie. Just be straight forward but be prepared for his pain.

You just say that. Be assertive;don't be a worm with no integrity: say what you mean and mean what you say.

It's simple.
