I'm not sure if it's fake wood or real wood. Anyways, is it okay to put a DELL Dimension PC on this type of floor? I'm orderring an anti-static floor mat, but until then is it fine to use it on the floor without the mat?

I have an anti-static wrist band as well, which I'm using now.

Laminate has no way to conduct static away like carpet so a charge can build up on it quite easy. That being said; the case on your computer is grounded to the power supply. Pull the cord out of the back of your computer. Do you see the three prongs there? One of those is the ground wire. The internal board is protected from outside static. You would only need to worry if you were messing around inside of it.

You won't have a static problem, shoot, you don't even need an antistatic strap. As long as you remember to touch the case of the computer before you touch any innards, that'll get rid of any static and you'll be fine. You'll likely be fine even if you forget to touch the case. I don't recommend that at all, but if you do forget, don't freak out because you're probably alright, just don't make a habit of it.

ESD ( Electro-Static Disharge) devices need to be grounded in order to dissapate voltage potentials. Any friction surface can produce static electricity with the right humidity and conditions.
