Actually the radio was manufactured and brought along before the illfated 3-hour tour, but I know what you mean....he did build cars, a robot, and numerous other gizmos. My main theory is that he had a secret love for Mary Ann, and didn't care to end their time together stuck on a desert island. He relished every moment they had with each other, enough not to apply his smarts to fix the Minnow.
The other reason is that being a smart but moral fellow, the Professor realized early on that the key to escaping the island would be to kill Gilligan. "Little Buddy" kept bollucksing up every attempt to reach civilization through his bungling escapades, but the Professor could never finish his design for a coconut-powered death ray to use against Gilligan. Hence, the long-term sojourn on the Island.

They explained that in one of the early episodes.
They did indeed patch the hole in the boat, using boards held by a new adhesive (probably invented by the professor, sorry, it's been too long since the 1960s). Unfortunately, the next day, the new adhesive spectacularly failed, and the Minnow was torn apart into its component boards. After that -- no boat.

Because he was gay in the 1960's and it was a good place to hide out with "the Skipper."
BTW. He made a telephone from coconuts not a radio.

because the shows contract was sealed for a run of 35 episodes and the professor was eaten by a shark in episode 34 ( it's a lost episode ) the general public never got to see it...the sharks name was Jaws...

Would you do the one task that would guarantee your being laid off for lack of work? Huh? Would you?
Okay, try this: it wasn't the hole in the boat, it was the empty fuel tank.
