I believe this is a very well stated question. I dont not know the answer but i can only assume that it is because we are a very strong country...and when i say strong i am not saying it out of ignorance nor arrogance. I also believe that We became this way, and in the begining when our fathers founded this country it was not ment to be like this...Although we have been through a lot. And i am proud of our backround I too am becoming ashamed to say that I am An American. I know we can do better. I see good in someone everyday. I know theres better out there. We just need to find it and let down the front of the good ol' hard a*s american.

Hey, apparently we're the minority, but I agree with you. It is somewhat embarassing being an American these days. I know a lot of Americans who dislike French becuase the French are always talking down to people from elsewhere in Europe. That's why many do not like Americans, because Americans think thry are better than others simply because they are Americans. Need examples? Look at the responses to this question. "Because we are!" seems to be the virtually unanimous concensus.
The first rule of rational thought is that one cannot define something by itself. That means if someone a asks you, "What is a dog?" you cannot answer, "A dog is a dog." That doesn't help. Nor does it help when someone asks "Why is?" and you respond "Because it is." Saying that America is the best place to live simply because it is America is irrational, uncritical, misinformed and stupid.
There is a lot wrong with this country. A lot of what goes on here is immoral. Americans have a well-documented history of socially sanctioned hate, violence, treachery, greed and more. Look at the way "Americans" treated the Native Americans, blacks and other minorities. Look at how Americans want to stop social programs that protect the majority from the powerful minority. Look at how Americans practice hypocrosy by justifying torture of Iraqis, but wouldn't stand to be tortured by anyone. I could go on and on.
Americans are no better than any others. In the end, everyone is human, regardless of national origin, religion, race or anything else. Everyone has the same traits, good and bad. To try to put ourselves above anyone, much less everyone, simply because there have been too many superhero American war movies, is childish "us vs. them" nonsense.

In a word?
Bravado.....
We have the greatest amount of resources in the world, and yet cannot house our poor, feed our hungry, and protect our own. We, as a nation, have won the most wars, but have forgotten our humanity in the process. We now fight wars that have no justification, nor strategic bases. We try to dictate our policies in areas where the thought process, that is uniquely American, is an affront to the Theology of the region. We claim to give the most aid, however seem to skip past the fact that it all goes to the benefit of local dictators.
I could go on and on about the fallacy of our belief that we are the greatest nation on Earth. Sadly, as patriotic as I am, I feel that we are going down paths, directed by a self-righteous despot, that will ultimately be our undoing.
This, once great, nation still has the chance at redemption. We need to clean up our own back yard, get ourselves out of foreign lands that we have no right to be in, and focus on what made us great in the first place. There was a time when the goods produced here were of far better quality than could be found anywhere else. We were once a nation of producers, and have declined into a nation of consumption and gluttony. Until we can restock the fires that once burned deep in our collective hearts, we will not again be able to truly call ourselves the greatest nation, number one, or any other ----------------(fill it in with anything denoting the greatness of our country).

I think it is just being proud. But I think we have butted into other countries' affairs, which we shouldn't have. Stuff that is none of our business. We think we are the best, but there are many other countries out there that are as smart as we are, if not, smarter. I just say we have to be thankful we are here, in the USA. Remember, this country is built by immigrants and not just one group of people, even though lots of people like to think so. There is a lot of greatness to this country that a lot people don't take into consideration, but we also have our faults, which every country has. We as Americans really have to be thankful that we are Americans because if there was no America, where would we be today? Even tthough,it doesn't give us the right to put down other countries and say their religion, traditions or culture is wrong. And I think that is why Americans have such a bad rep for thinking we are the best. I wouldn't say we are the best, but I am proud to be an American.

Why do "human beings" say that? as though anybody right here could account for all of u.s.. yet in line with threat they say that because of the fact we slaughtered each and all the indigenous human beings and took their land via tension, making it "our" us of a. that is yet in any different case to assert that your concepts at the instant are not in line with mainstream (ignorant, consistently finding out to purchase, inebriated and unwilling to examine) american ideals. As for how some distance in another us of a, i could say they advise close adequate they are in a position to nonetheless see you yet some distance adequate that they do no longer could feed or scent you. Peace.

You say it as if America is exclusive to such human nature. It is natural for humans to be extremely proud and protective of their "tribe," "clan," family, nation, etc. Foremost, we say it for a reason. American is #1. It is the freest society ever known to man. Fact. No other state, nation, society, etc has ever enjoyed the vast list of liberties and rights we Americans enjoy today. You absolutely disgust me. How dare you disregard the millions dead, wounded, and dying because they believed in ensuring and protecting our basic right and liberties from interior and exterior meances. If you are ashamed to be American, feel free to leave. Try Mexico, Iran, etc. Perhaps the only way to make you realize and appreciate the basic liberties and rights you enjoy everyday, such as picking what school to attend, choosing where to live, deciding where to work, choosing whether or not to /or have kids and marry, is to have them taken away from you. It is unappreciating and apathetic people such as yourself that terrorists and anti-democratic power-mongers thrive on. YOU FUKCING DISGUST ME YOU PATHETIC AND APATHETIC IGNORANT WHOR3. Leave...Leave...get out, we Americans could certainly do without ignorant and apathetic morons such as yourself. You are a massive shltstain on the underpants of American society. I can't believe someone can be so ignorant, apathetic, and selfish towards millions who literally laid down their lives with the unfaltering conviction they were protecting everyday citizens such as ourselves. I'm ashamed you smear the name American by calling yourself one. You should be ashamed to even consider yourself American. You are no American. That name is not meant to be used lightly. It is deserving only of those who appreciate this great nation, and the countless heroes and unpassed graves who have made this country what it is.
