People don't realize that sex, gender, and orientation are 3 separate things. Your sex is what you have below. Your gender involves your inborn push to do certain things as well as your culture. It is what you feel you are and how you relate to the world. Your orientation is your sexual preference in terms of what partners you like, if any at all.

People also don't realize that all of the above have in-between states. A person can be intersexed, ie., having primary physical features somewhere between the sexes. They can be androgynous, ie., being somewhere between masculine and feminine. They can also be bisexual, which is between gay/les and straight.

I agree with the comments in the post above mine that refer to the treatment of transsexuals. I know that is true from personal experiences. People don't understand that we don't transition to become freaks or become like the gays, but to feel and be treated as normal according to our true gender identity. We cannot help it that our gender identity is at odds with our physical sex. Many of us feel that true-TSism is a birth defect, and not too distant kin from intersex disorder (to the chagrin of some intersexed patients).

"The" [big] gender issue in America is the widespread fallacy that there are only two genders. Many people get upset and even indignant when someone even suggests the possibility that there might be more than two genders. This goes beyond the question of "gender" actually. It has to do with our penchant for classification, simple rules of labeling and putting people in "boxes" where we hope they will [and some expect them to] stay. Shakespeare would have a mother lode of characters and play themes [both tragedies and comedies] in this society.

I think one main problem with Gender issues here is that most people are completely ignorant about the logic of gender. Specifically those who think they are well informed about gender issues and even write books about it for the public to read, spilling more ignorance to the masses. Keeping people lost and confused about it.

the gender issue in the USA is simple people dont give respect or rights to those that are transsexual. we have to fight three times as hard as anyone else for equallity, esspecially in the work place. someone that is transitioning from male to female should be treated as a female and not like some freak. yet thats how society looks at us. transsexuals should not be looked at like they look at a transvestite. we are trying to fit into society as the gender we relate to so to the person who thinks its separate get an understanding of the issues before you spew stupidity out of your pie hole.

Convince someone of what? There is no gender issue in America. We have two. Male and female. I believe it is the same across the planet. Gender is not the same thing as Trans-Gender. Please be specific or ask another question.
