Manchester City have appealed against Joey Barton's sending off in their match with Bolton, meaning that the midfielder will be available for their Boxing Day fixture with Sheffield United.

When a player gets send off he is given a gap of some days before his ban begins so that he can appeal against the red card (or the fa can investigate the incidetn and extend his ban). And during this duration he is allowed to play in any matches that may take place.

Man city appealed the red card so barton has a hearing with the fa tomorrow and he could be banned for saturdays match.

because the F.As offices are closed over the Christmas period so Bartons red card wasnt processed so he was allowed to play. dont worry though, he will get banned once the offices re-open!

they appealed, seeing as the FA was closed (?) they couldn't process the appeal in time and he can still play

if i remember correctly - if they had taken the ban against sheffield that would have been it over - but if the appeal fails, which it should, he'll get a 3 game ban

the decision was appealed, so therefore the ban does not come into effect until a decision is made. I think the red will be rescinded anyway to a yellow.

They Club appealed against the dismissal and the Federation decided to remove the ban which is why he played.

Thanx!

when a player gets sent off, there not instantly banned the next game, theres a deadline to when the ban begins, so he could play a possible 2 more games and then serve his ban
