You can only format cd-rw disc. Try updating your nero or writing at a lower speed. Close all other programs if having trouble buring. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for you drive. And make sure to blow the drive out with a can of compressed air.

CD-R disks are what is known as a Write-Once, Read-Many media. When you are "burning" the CD, you are effectively formatting the disk so that it holds the data or image that you requested Nero to burn for you.

If the media stops writing or is interrupted due to a slow connection to the drive, it usually renders the CD media unusable and you have to just throw it away and start with a fresh one.

There are exceptions...For example, if you did not tell the Nero package to "close" the CD upon completion, it may still be able to write more info to the CD. But in my experience, you usually just have to throw it away and try to burn again, but at a slower speed.

For example, if you are trying to burn a CD at 24X speed, perhaps bring that down to 12X or 8X and try it like that to see if it works better.

Some of these drives tell you it can burn at higher speeds but that is only with an excellent connection and a high-quality CD-R media.

Once the burning is aborted with a cd-r you cant use it again. You can only format cd-RW's and dvd-RW's.. Only thing you can do that seems close to sort of what you want to do is in the burning process, dont finalize the CDR.. This really doesnt do you alot of good seeing how the cd wont be able to be read in any other device until you finalize it. It is simply there in case you werent done burning to the cd and wanted to contine later on..
