One thing I must advise you with is that brackets are very important when trying to convey your question to people on here.

x+8/24x could mean one of many things:

x + 8/24x
(x + 8)/24x
x + (8/24) x

And thus the ambiguity will get you different responses. Try and bracket your terms if you have any future questions, so people can help you easier.

In your case, I'm going to assume you meant

(x + 8)/(24x) + (3x - 8)/(24x)

All we have to do is add the numerators together, and put under a single denominator.

[(x + 8) + (3x - 8)] / (24x)

Note that the +8 and the -8 would cancel, since added together they form 0.

[x + 3x] / (24x)

[4x] / (24x)

Now, the x terms will cancel, since one is on the top and one is on the bottom. You'll end up with 4/24, which reduces to 1/6. So your final answer is

4/24 = 1/6

Are the x+8 and the 3x-8 supposed to be over 24x?

(x+8)/24x + (3x-8)/24x

In that case, the answer is 1/6.

If not, then the answer is 4x.

The 2 terms 8/24x cancel. So you end up with:
x +3x = 4x

x+8+3x-8/24x because the same denominator
