Convert the metric measure to inches by dividing by 25.4. (285 ÷ 25.4 = 11.22inches)
Multiply the section height in inches by the aspect ratio (in this case, 75) to determine the section height. (11.22 x 75% = 8.42 inches)
Multiply the section height by 2, then add the wheel diameter as noted in the tire size. In this example, the wheel diameter is 18 inches. (8.42 x 2 + 18 = 34.84 inches – Overall Tire Diameter)

This formula will work for any metric or P-metric sized tire

The tire size is figured like this the 285 means the tire is 285 mm wide when mounted on the recommended size rim there is about 25.5 mm per inch ( I don't remember the exact number.) and the 75 means it is 75% as high as it is wide so using this figure you would have a tire about 35 inches tall. 11.17 inches wide X .75 = 8.37 you will need this figure for both the top and bottom of the tire to find out the diameter.. so 8.37 + 8.37 + 18 = 34.74 inches tall

"285" is the width of tyre in millimetres
"75" is the ratio of sidewall to tyre width, and there's two sidewalls, so 285x0.75x2 = 427.5 mm
"R18" is the wheel diameter = 457.2 mm

So the total is the sum of the sidewalls and wheel diameter,
427.5 + 457.2 = 884.7 mm, or 34.8 inches
