Here's an obscure one for controversial: Mary Todd Lincoln. She had some serious tragedy happen to her in herlife and she sort of went over the edge later in life.
Hillary Clinton is controversial, both for her politics and her staying in a marriage to a man who was obviously sleeping around in more than one place during their marriage.
Nancy Reagan was criticised for allegedlyconsulting astrologers to help her guide her husband's presidency. She also had some sortofscandal about keeping dresses that were loaned to her or somethinglike that.

He's right about Mary Lincoln....she was actually a psycho biatch...she would make a fool out of Abe in public, in private, and he still stuck by her...gotta hand it to him.
