The best French movie ever is a Belgian movie... C'est arrivé près de chez vous - Man Bites Dog. OK, I'm a bit biased, I'm Belgian! Oh, but it's a 1992 movie... Guess I'm disqualified...

Ditto Amelie. My favorite movie of all time. Actually, I haven't seen many French movies, but Amelie is a darn good one.

asterix and obelix. it is hilariously, even for a french movie. you'll love it. it's best to watch it after you know who the characters are. asterix and obelix are gauls, from gaul, which is where modern day france is. historical characters are included in the film, although the story itself isn't a part of history.
