Well, first you have to learn how to tune it and then you need to know where to place your fingers to make chords or, for the time being, you could just pluck at the strings and try to play the melody of songs that you like.

what type of style would you like to learn how to play? the frederick noad books are excellent starting books for learning how to read music and playing classical styles. please please please stay away from tabs. i'm sorry but i just really dislike them, but they are a quick way to learn something fast. i suggest experimenting by playing different notes and hearing them, when you start reading music either by tabs or sheet, you'll already have some respect for it and have some knowledge you discovered yourself. the more you play the more you'll discover about playing and fingerings and i wish you the best of happiness with you and your knew relationship with your guitar. :). good luck.

If you know what songs you'd like to play, should go find the tabs...

Tabs are really easy to play... play enough and you'll definately start getting good at it.
