The free roam icons are two little red people floating and spinning. Walk into them and press any button on a second ps2 controller
Look outside any girlfriends house, when they are in.
On the Los Santos island, there are icons at:
Head west from the Grove Street cul-de-sac, and cross the railway line. As soon as you pass under the bridge, turn right next to a weird disused building. Park on the drive, and go through the archway to the left. The icon will be there.
Head to Dillimore from Los Santos, and look for the 'general store'. It is in the south, and the actual icon is near a non-customer door
There is a rampage in Pershing Square, LS. In the dead centre of the square, there is a little skull icon. This is where you have a time limit to kill a number of people.
There is another rampage in Montgomery, look in a little courtyard on the outskirts of the town. You have to kill 7 motorbikes in a time limit.
On the San Fierro island:
Head west from your garage, until you pass the construction site, and you see a car park. The icon is near a vending machine in the car park.
On the Las Venturas island:
On the motorway that heads over the Golden Gate ('Gant')bridge, take the bayside tunnels exit (You may need to drive on the wrong side of the road). Carry on up that road, until you come to El Quebrados. Take the first right, then first left, then first right. Around the corner there should be an icon near a little shop. (Alternate directions: Head west from the barber shop)
Off the strip, head to the Royale Casino (Where Madd Dogg tried to jump off.) Around the northern side, there should be a covered alley (Still part of the casino). There should be an icon there.

There are a few points in the game where if you put CJ on them and push a button on the P2 controller, if starts the 2P free roam. The different areas you can do this give you different P2 characters to choose to play as. After someone dies in 2P mode, CJ is taken back to 1P free roam mode at the icon point again, and 2P can join again right there.

There are several places you can go which you'll see a 2-player icon, just press start on controller 2. My favorite is in the Royale Casino.

there is an icon in los santos next to big smokes house were the messed up house are! in back!
