Flood myths are prevalent in all cultures. There is likely a kernel of historical or geological truth in these myths, which have been embellished and adapted to the religious and cultural needs of the people retelling the myth over the ages. If you couple an ancient pre-literate memory with a mnemonic device for storytelling in the name fo teaching a moral lesson, you have the besis of a persistent myth which may be understood at many levels. Unfortunately, some insist that certain myths are applicable at *all* levels of understanding, which is patent rubbish. The account of the flood in Genesis was/is not meant to be a scientific, biological, geological, or anthropological treatise, as none of those disciplines existed when it was first developed.

Yes, it's bull___. There are literally millions of species of animals on this planet, in fact as I type this, someone somewhere has probably discovered yet another species of beetle. The list is by no means complete. Then of course, going to the extreme, you have to remember that a lot of die hard creationists believe the dinosaurs and all the other pre-historic animals co-existed with man.(imagine loading 2 100ft long siesmosaurus onto the ark! ). I have heard all sorts of "oh they only took baby animals " and "Actually there were 2 arks" nonesense stories on the internet trying to back up the claims. The funniest one was "All todays species must have evolved from those that were taken on the ark" So they actually do believe in ( ultra rapid? ) Darwinian evolution... when they feel like it!
By the way, fish on top of mountains? they are f-o-s-s-i-l-s. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the first people to recognise that fact, that was in back the 1400's.

Many people believe in the Ark story because of "faith." Whether it is true or not, faith allows someone to believe in something blindly so as to serve a cause. Faith is a very powerful thing, especially if unshaken. Think of all the wars that occurred on faith in a religion or leader (creation of the Roman Empire, The Crusades, World Wars, etc). Think of all the improbable events that occurred because of an individual's faith in themself or another (flight, climbing Everest, living 20 years when promised only 3, etc).
What cause does the Ark story serve? It teaches us to be good, respect God, and that He will allow us to survive when he passes judgement again. Does God exist? Again, that answer is based in faith.
All the evidence that could be provided can still leave room for faith to contradict it, unless you are a first-hand witness at the event contradicting it. The best main-stream discussion on faith in recent times was actually an episode of "Friends" where Ross and Phoebe were arguing about evolution. Ross, the scientist, professed that evolution must be true, and proceeded to present item after item of evidence to support his claim. Phoebe would not believe it regardless and at the end just asked Ross that even with all the evidence that had been gathered, could it be that he and his fellow believers might possibly be wrong. Ross had to admit that it might, however small, be possible.
Faith; it allows near impossibility to be regarded as possibility instead. Pessimism vs. optomism, if you will.

No ark has been found despite what people will say.
People believe their religous stories because it gives people easy answers to complex questions. It also gives them peace of mind about things that the person does not understand.
No such ark could ever exist that would hold two of every animal, the ark would be too big.
As for the "fish on mountain guy":, thats a logical fallacy called "if this, then that"
The number two answer said it best.

ridiculous, yes impossible, hardly improbable, especially in light of the facts that there was a huge world wide flood during that time period, and the answers even though they were destroyed are just now being slowly discovered. add to that the part that no one has yet to prove that it didn`t happen, can you??????

Your information is incorrect- they have actually located the ark and are currently studying it. The design and size could have accommodated the critters and as far as getting all them in the boat- it's just bad form to put limits on God. We can't even begin to comprehend His awesome abilities. You would, no doubt have been one of those that thought Noah was wacky- right up until you drowned.
