They traded Vlade Divac, Kobe was orginally drafted by Charlotte, but the Lakers immediately traded to get him in 96-97 campaign.

The Charlotte Hornets selected him the 13th pick in 96, and the Lakers traded Vlade Divac for him. It was that same off-season when they drafted Derek Fisher the 24th pick, and signed Shaq as a free agent.

Well since they have him on the team is a trade to get him necassary? That my make Phil Jackson look kinda goofey. It is neat how it works...the NBA is set up where once you have a player on the team you no longer have to trade to get him. Kinda weird how that works. Next time you ask a stupid question do it somewhere else.
