Provide some more info... are they indoor or outdoor? What size is the tank/pond?
What temperature? Any tankmates? Was the water cycled and dechlorinated?
Could any toxins have gotten into the water?
Did the fish show any symptoms before they died, like bloating, clamped fins, fuzzy stuff, white spots, etc?

test the water chemistry, such as pH, ammonia levels (NH3), and water hardness by buying a water test kit from a pet store
it's also possible there may be some biological organism in the water, such as a parasite or bacteria, that infected and killed the fish
Also, if the water temperature and chemistry changed too quickly, the fish went into shock and died, which is a common cause of death among fish because many people simply dump the fish from the bag straight into a new fish tank without realizing the consequences it has on fish
Also, when fish are shocked, they develop white spots on them from a bacterial infection known as Ick. Did you fish have white spots on them before they died? Also if they had ruffled scales and looked pale before, it could have been a disease known as dropsy, which causes the swim bladder to get bloated and the fish to swim upside down.

Perhaps the weather has been too cold for them - try covering the pool at night for a while
