You get scolding hot water to all the other fixtures because your water heater is turned up to high it should be set at 120 degrees. The shower valve has a scald guard in it to prevent kids and the elderly from burning themselves. If you take the handle off , you will see it in there an outer ring and 1 in the middle pull out the inner 1 turn a little, put back in and test the temperature, if it got colder/ warmer turn the other way until you reach your perfect temperature. don't put the handle back on every time just use pliers to turn it on and off. You should adjust your water heater first then wait till the next day to do the shower.

if it is a moen faucet then you have a bad cartridge the rubber o ring is leaking past the hot water side of the valve .or the hot water is not turned on all the way.remove the handle and the large backing plate.look inside the wall u will see a screw on both sides that is how u turn the water on or off open them all the way then close them a 1/4 turn .if a screw driver doesent work use a socket.if u have to replace the cartridge.get the #off the old one .when u by the new one it has directions on how to install

Do you have a single handle valve? If so it sounds like your mixer valve has gone bad. You will need a plumber to replace that. As for the scalding hot water... I would turn the water heater down to about 120F. That is temp recommended by most safety people.

sounds like the shower valve is pressure balanced and that the diaphragm is clogged or swollen. either will restrict the flow of hot water and the valve is balancing your efforts. really hot water can distort the rubber parts in the valve. either way, the valve body needs to be taken apart to fix the problem. have your model number or style of fixture and brand when you call the plumber or go for parts. hope this is of help, good luck, and happy new year!
