Do you put the pin horizontal or vertical, and do you put it all the way to the left or right when you want to set the hard drive as the primary? I have a 40gb Maxwell Harddrive, and it worked in my old PC, but when I put it into the Dell Computer (I took out the hard drive from the Dell and replaced it with this one) , the computer does not boot. It is not recognizing the hard drive and I think it is because I have the pin set up the wrong way. Can someone please refer me to either a picture or something visual on the Internet so I can compare?

It depends on the model of your drive, check on the label of the hard drive. If it is not there, go to the Maxtor site and search for your drive's model number and look for it there.

The direction might have been given in the hard drive cover.I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

Master or single (only for one drive on the cable)

Always vertical unless told other wise by the manufacture

Use BIOS IDE autoconfig feature to help you out

You might have to open the bios and on the primary drive or all drives move the diagram to "auto", if it set to"user" it will not detect your new drive
