I started working for Macy's a little over a month ago. I am a recovery and I find the job really stressful and gives you all kinds of hours.
I'm a full time high school senior, I take extra classes and I also volunteer at a hospital 3 hours a day for 3 days a week. When I was hired, they said it would be a minimum of 15 hours a week and it wouldn'texceed 30 hours a week, on my work permit (for school) they asked for my maximum amount of hours to be 25. Since I started, they always gave me 32-38 hours and I honestly can't handle that.
I've been getting really sick lately and was diagnosed with Pneumonia on Christmas and in the past 3 weeks, this would be my 9th day calling in sick because I'm still really contagious. I had what I thought was a cold, which was really an ear infection, then I had a strep throat, which led to the flu, which led to Pneumonia. I have NEVER been this sick before until I started working at Macy's.

Also, since I started working at Macy's I haven't had timg WHAT SO EVER to focus on school, I feel like I'm going to be behind. I always managed to still get straight A's at my previous jobs now I'm possibly going to be pulling down C's.

just tell them, you have other obligations, that are more important, they were all young once, and its sounds like this place is really making you sick.. your a senior enjoy life! & just tell them the truth, it always works! its proble in your best interest to just tell them that friday will be your last day, at least give them a bit of a notice, even if its not 2 weeks. a littles better then nothing.. GOOD LUCK!

No job is worth this much stress....it is making you very ill.
I would call them and tell them that it is just too much, that you wanted a part-time job when you were hired...part-time only. Also remind them of you being in high school and that you are working on a work permit, and that you agreed, when hired to only work a maximum of 25 hours a week. Ask them if you could work less. If they won't budge, quit. It isn't worth it, and no future job should hold this against you.

You are not obligated to put in a 2 week notice. I would just give your supervisor a resignation letter. Here is a sample letter you could use:Letter of Resignation
Your Name
Your Address
Your City, State, Zip Code
Your Phone Number
Your Email
Date
Name
Title
Organization
Address
City, State, Zip Code
Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name:
Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am leaving my position with XYZ company on September 15.
Thank you for the opportunities you have provided me during my time with the company.
If I can be of any assistance during this transition, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Your Signature
Your Typed Name

max of 25 hours/week, Macys isn't suppose to exceed that max of hours or they'll get in trouble, it's only Macy's, and plus turnover is usually quite high as well during the holiday season, if you're seriously that sick, just leave, it's not worth killing yourself over a seasonal job. and plus recovery is the worst...you're basically cleaning up other people's crap....stay home, high school seniors should never take it upon themselves to work at a dept store during the holiday season, you're just asking for trouble...

I thought you had to be 18 to work there.
If you do not want to quit, like if you still like it, try to talk to the manager or person who schedules your hours about how your supposed to not have more then 25. Alot of part time jobs, no matter where it is will give you alot more then you asked for.

Talk to your manager. Tell her your situation and what you need to be done. You need to concentrate on your studies now - that is unless you want to work at Macy's the rest of your life.
If you end up quitting without giving your 2 weeks notice, that could reflect badly when your next employer does a reference check - that is, unless you tell the prospective employer the situation up front.

The solution is simple...just quit the job. Seriously, nobody is forcing you to work and you are in control with your life. If you are sick from working then your body is telling you that you can't handle it. If Macy's is not complying to the hours you're supposed to work then maybe you can remind them again of the restrictions. If they won't listen to you then just quit.

If your work permit says only 25 hr.
they are breaking the law.
You do not need to give two weeks
Call and say school is more important and you are not coming in.
Please mail me my last check
then go the person who gave you the work permit and tell them how many hours you had to work.
It could mean a huge fine for the place of employment
good luck

youre working with the public.. thats why youre getting sick. I wouldnt quit right off the bat, but change your availablilty... say weekends only, or tuesdays and thursdays, etc. if they are giving you that many hours and still in high school, they can get into BIIIGGG trouble. Look up the exact rules on that...

Go to Human Resources and tell them you're resigning due to school and health reasons.
