It depends on what kind of guitar it is.
Most electric guitars have one strap lug at the bottom, and another above the neck. The strap should have holes that will allow you to pop it onto the lugs--sometimes a new strap will be harder to get on (which is good, because it won't fall off as easy). You might need to stretch the holes out a little to get it on the first time--use a screwdriver or something.
If it is an accoustic guitar, it should still have the bottom strap lug, but the other end is usually tied around the headstock--underneath the strings at the nut (the little plastic deal that holds the strings). They make straps specifically for accoustic guitars that have string on one end--but you can use any strap--just use a piece of string to tie it onto the headstock (I usually use a zip-tie).

some are not made to have straps. If yours is made for straps then tie one end to aft. the bridge and there should be a slit in your strap to go on to a knob at the out side bottom of you guitar body.
That knob is indicative as to rather or not your guitar is meant to have a strap. The long neck it has frets all the way to your head, where you tighten up your strings, before that head there is a bridge that you can tie your guitar strap to, AFTER the bridge not before, between the head and bridge, Hope this helps and good luck

The guitar should have two studs, or buttons, one on the end of the body and one on the neck or top of the body, depending on the style of guitar. The strap has eyelets in the ends that you button around the two studs. then adjust the length of the strap by sliding the buckle up or down.

The guitar should have a small metal knob for connecting the strap, but if not you can get kits to install them from any music store.

There should be a "button" on the end and one where the neck meets the body. The strap will fit over those.
