like there is a 500 song limit! Can you make it 1000 with out buying anything!

There is no "song limit." The advertising information simply provides utilizes an estimate of 4 MB per song and estimates that 500 songs will fill the iPod. You may have shorter or longer songs and therefore end up with less or more songs.

If you are importing the songs from CD, or are using MP3 files, you can use iTunes to convert the songs to a lower bitrate in order to fit more songs on the iPod at the cost of sound quality.

If it's a new iPod and you really think you'll put 1,000 or more songs on it, maybe you should see about sending it back and getting a 4 GB Nano or possibly a standard iPod.
