Ghosts are definately real. I have had three experiences with them in my life. I think that most ghosts are like people. Some good and some bad. Most people won't hurt you or do anything to try to upset you. They just go about living their lives as best they can. Ghosts are much the same. Even though they don't have a life to live anymore, they have their own things to occupy their time. However, some people are mean, nasty and can be downright dangerous out of pure evil. Some ghosts are that way, too. They purposely scare people (even little kids, which is mean), they break things, they cause mischief. So yes, there are some instances when we should be afraid of them.

The souls or departed mortals do not return or communicat in any way with the living.... what are called"ghosts" ar, in fact, evil spirits. These can and do cause harm to mortals. They are of the forces of evil and as such have some abilities to make themselves visible in many forms... they can do physical harm on occasion.... the reason people think they have seen someone who has died is because these spirits do know every thing about the living... they know where grandpa buried the family jewels... they know all the nasty things you've done... they can mimic the dead very well... The forces of evil are very real.... this dose not come from any "religious" teaching...this comes from personal experience... I knew of the truth of the forces of evil long befor I came to know The Truth of God.

It is the fault of society. People are often so brainwashed by society that they can not cope with the unknown. With better education they might perhaps, overcome some of this fear - this is, however, unlikely. Look around you at the horror movies, at the festivals - this all goes to the bad reps the remaining spirits receive. Perhaps a few, such as Hans Holzer can really overcome this fear from society and teach other's the real truth about dealing with the afterlife and its inhabitants.

People are frightened of the spirit world because of fear of the unknown and lots of movies from Hollywood which feed on that fear. Ghosts and spirits (there IS a difference) cannot physically harm you. Living people hurt eachother.

Now then poltergeists and demons are another story and if you are or have been plagued with either one, I'd say you're completely f***ed!

People are mostly afraid of things that they can't explain. If you have no knowledge of ghosts, then you'll be scared of them.
Some spirits can cause harm and they can do loads to make your life very uncomfortable. The best thing to do, if you can't see ghosts, is to surround yourself with positive things and try to not think negatively.

I think that people are scared of ghosts because they are the unknown. What people dont know scares them. That's why many people are afraid of the dark, they dont know whats in front of them so thats what frightens them. Movies dont help either. They usually show ghosts as something we should be afraid of, as something that will haunt us.

Probably b/c it's unexpected and you get startled. Most people also get a cold chill when a ghost comes around,and they don't ever really look to happy either. They can also move things around;so it can be quite startling.
