I've been on anti-depressents for 5 years, and lately ive been using the nicotine patch to quit smoking. I'm not sure which one gives me the super vivid dreams but they are literally like movies, i wish I could remember them it would make a great book. However, no matter how much I sleep I'm never rested, I can sleep 5 hours or 12 hours and I just as tired either way. I don't know if its that my brain isn't turning off or something else is going on.

I used to have vivid dreams then they stopped.
But then I started not sleeping well - very tired the next day.
Your body must be in REM to dream. This means you are getting GOOD DEEP SLEEP. which you body needs.
I went to the dr, and found I may have sleep apnea - which causes people to feel tired all day even if they sleep 8-13 hours. I sleep 7-12 hours and always am tired. They wanted to do a sleep lab I havent went back to do and hook you up on a CPAK I think its a oxygen system while you sleep. A friend of mine has it and said she can tell a difference BIG TIME. More energy etc.
I do dream odd dreams, water, tidal waves, being held under water and some may think that is me needing more air(sleep apnea) I have also woke up sitting straight up in bed gasping for air. Now I am on sonato which puts me to sleep (insominia) and it helps some. Trying going off anti depressants and geta sleep lab - all things are connected apnea, insominia, etc. That might be why you are depressed too. I used to be and went off those too.Get some good excersie too - that will help you sleep real good!

dreams are indicative of good sleep actually, we need dream states to achieve the proper brain wave patterns to maintain health.
If you are waking up tired, I would first suspect sleep apnea, you might want to look into a sleep study. Secondly, it may be that the antidepressant dose is not right, or it isn't working at all, as fatigue is a symptom of depression. Discuss it with your mental health care professional.
