I live in a dense area and have many signals to choose from. I realize I must pick signals that are not locked. I am always able to connect to a signal. My computer will show that I am "connected" It will even give me the strenght of the signal. But, latlely I have been unable to log onto the net using Mozilla or Explorer. I the icon on the bottom shows two computers that are usually not both lit up. I think it has something to do with that. I Realize I am not a paying customer and stealing a connection. My pages show up as, "cannot find server" What should I do, besides pay for the service?

I could simply finding the router signal but if that is not connected to the internet you will not be able to connect to the internet.

You maybe putting yourself at risk by doing what you are trying to do, if someone finds out that you are connecting to them they can search their network and find your computer on it and add a virus.

Bite the bullet and get your own service.

You are not stealing a connection. People who do not secure their connection are allowing it for open access. That was said to me by my ISP. The computer icon on the bottom should show wave lines off to one side. If you are not connected, you should see a red X through it. If it doesn't show up, check your wireless switch and make sure it is on.

Also, check your Internet connection properties and make sure that your Internet connection is set to a LAN network (one that is always on).

I have found just cause they say its free doesn't mean so. Many 'free" signals that do not have a network key and that you can access still have ways of blocking you from using the internet.

Try your public library

I have to agree. Break down and buy internet access. Your neighbors, if they are smart, probably figured out that someone was hogging their connection and locked it down.
