I am doing a long research paper about tanning salons and I need to know if the gov't has put any limits or laws or any rules on tanning salons and what they can do??

Tanning salons are usually regulated by the State, County and/or the City that they are doing business in, and not by the Federal government. Because it's not federally regulated, each state/city/county makes their own rules on what department sets the rules.

Check with your local Health Department, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, and Zoning Board for starters. These agencies will have a lot to do with the rules and regulations tanning salons must follow. They should also be able to refer you to the correct agency, if they're not the best bet.
