Presidential Helicopter Marine 1 lands on the White House lawn, Marine Guard posts himself by the door of Marine 1, door opens and Marine is knocked to the ground, from what I remember, President Ford assited the young Marine back to his feet, then saluted the young man, who returned the salute...:)

He was a nebbish who was thrust into a position where he was clearly over his head and in-arguably did the best he could with what was handed him.
He was a generally honest man (in comparison to most politicians) who was willing to put principle above ideology, partisanship and his own political advancement.
His economic policies, if they hadn't been as damaging as they turned out to be, would have been comical. That he thought that mailing out millions of little, metal "WIN" ("whip inflation now") buttons would act as some sort of stimulus that would outweigh his blundering (ill conceived tax cuts and price controls) was patently absurd.
His foreign policy of "detente" with regards to the Soviets and Chinese communists was, at best, misguided.
On domestic social issues, he was fantastic. He took seriously the title of "President of ALL the people." While he strongly supported true Conservative values (including choice), he was a believer in real "bi-partisanship" and actively sought input from those he disagreed with when developing policy.
Overall, not the best President the country has produced. But, for all his faults, he was a damn sight better than anything the Republican Party has produced since the rise of the neo-cons.
For all his faults, I'd still trade a thousand Reagan's and Bush's for one Ford.

I was born during the last months of the Eisenhower Administration but Mr. Ford was the first president that I became diligently aware of. The Vietnam War got me interested in politics and I had no idea what Watergate was really about.
What I will remember about President Ford is his even-keeled approach to things, his down-to-earth demeanor, lack of controversy, and overall contribution to our country during his tenure as well as after. He was a class act.
And respectfully, I will always remember how Chevy Chase and Johnny Carson made fun of his trips and falls.

i'm saddened via the information i'm a existence long Democrat--had some severe problems with a brilliant form of what President Ford believed and did---yet I do have faith him to have been a surely sturdy guy at coronary heart !! and that's fairly unique for me to be asserting a pair of Republican !! My greatest difficulty with him became his pardon of Richard Nixon in the Watergate element-- theory all alongside that Nixon could have been compelled into the commonplace public shame of his movements !! even nonetheless, i think of the international is fairly a lesser fulfilled place this night with out this committed chief !!!

Something that I remember is that he was our 38th president and was not elected for the presidency. He previously served as Vice-President under President Nixon from 1973-74.He pardoned Richard Nixon so Nixon did not have to go to prison for the Watergate scandal.Nixon was the first and only president who has ever resigned from the presidency in 1974.

I don't have much memory of Gerry Ford. I was six when Carter beat him. I remember he had a lot of class and great respect for the office. I remember Chevy Chase making fun of his clumsiness. And he completed the pullout of Vietnam, pardoned Nixon, and always tried to do what was right, not what was popular.

Hi. Yes it's a sad day. :-(
My memory are not of best of him because I was only a little kid when he was in office so the only thing I remember was how importance he is in the white house and that's about it.
Oh! unless he's the one that fell down those stairs at his Air One airplane. :-)

His ability to take all the jokes about his clumsiness in stride. Probably because he was really a fit and avid athlete.
