For Christmas, my live-in fiancee' got a bottle of Aqua Di Gio...Thing is...When I smell it, it makes me cry...I mean big ol tears...I can't stand feeling like that but it does smell really good...The real reason why I cry is because it was my late brother's favorite cologne and that smell lingered in my mom's house after he died b/c he also lived with her. I told my fiancee' that-that was his favorite cologne and sometimes I smell it in the air and cry...Now for Christmas, he gets a bottle....I want him to keep it and then I want him to get rid of it b/c it upsets me...What should I do?

♥ he shouldn't wear it if u get upset when he does. he should respect u enough 2 not wear the cologne that holds so many memories in it. tell him that u wish he wouldn't wear it out places becuz u don't want 2 break down right in public. tell him that u want him 2 keep it becuz he has every right 2, but that u don't want 2 get upset out in public. i believe that u shouldn't even have 2 give an explanation. if i had perfume that made my bf cry becuz his sister had that same perfume be4 she passed away, he wouldn't have 2 tell me twice. i'd get rid of it the minute he started getting upset. i hope ur bf respects u & doesn't wear it n/e more. good luck. ♥

I'm sorry for your loss.
As for the cologne, I don't think there is anything wrong with asking him to get rid of it. Scent is very much tied to memory and the emotions associated with it. That happened to me the other day when I saw a bottle of perfume that has been out of style for decades in the store and smelled it . . . brought back tons of memories of a high school sweetheart that I hadn't thought of in years.
If the memories are painful and the scent brings them back, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to eliminate it from the house.
At least I hope he would.

Your fiance was very thoughtful. He wanted to give you something that would really have meaning to you. And, he succeeded. It does mean something to you. It isn't quite what he planned, but it does have great meaning.
You can put that bottle of cologne in the back of your drawer and then take it out to remember him whenever you want. That's a great gift.
Honestly, I think you're very lucky to have someone that would remember a small detail like that and act on it.

If he knows the history and why it upsets you, he won't have a problem getting rid of it. Buy him some other cologne that can be his scent.

Maybe you need to remember the good times with your brother and when you smell his "scent" smile. He wouldn't want you to suffer over him. He is in a much better place.

Keep it, my fiance lost his brother 10 years ago and he would say to keep it but put it away. One day you will feel strong enough to smell it and it will remind you of your brother and you will be glad he kept it.
