well its gets wired the following
router port1 --> xbox live
router port2 --> laptop or via wireless if your router has wirless access.
very simple, since the xbox live has all the instructions required.

Unless your laptop has a way of plugging an ethernet cable in and out of it, it's not possible, so it'll be much easier just patching it directly into a router, (plus, many people who do this connection will either lag a lot, or be accused of cheating).
If you have no ethernet ports on your router spare, you can buy a wireless adapter for the XB360 at your local games store.

You can get a wired connection by using the ethernet cable that came with it. Or you could buy a wireless adapter for the xbox, costs quite a bit, and do it that way
