Well, If you're using a computer...do you have a CD burner?? Most computers nowadays come standard with a CD/DVD burner included plus the appropriate software such as Nero 6. If you don't have a burner installed on your computer then, you can order a nice quality inexpensive one from www.newegg.com. And all of Newegg's DVD/CD burners come with Nero 6 software. The burner takes about 5 minutes to install.
Additionally, you can pick up various types of CD-R disks at any
local walmart or similiar.
And just like the other posts state, It's good to have 1 regular CD/DVD rom and 1 DVD+CD-RW drive installed on your computer.

If you have one cd writer, and one cd writer program, you just tell the program what the source of the files or cd to be copied is and it will copy the cd/files to a space on the hard drive, then you pop out the cd to be copied and insert the cd-r and it writes it to the cd-r.

If you want a free tool, you can use Padus Disc Juggler to copy a cd to a blank cd using a single burner
http://www.padus.com/products/discjuggler/standard.php
download the "demo" edition for free; it will only burn at the lowest speed of your optical drive so it isn't speedy
a useful flash tutorial on how to burn an audio cd can be found here
