The current system is clearly not working. So what is wrong with a playoff system? I think that some kind of playoff sytem has got to be implimented! But 16 teams is too many! They need to take the top 8 BCS teams and run them back in a playoff format with the first round being played in the 4 major bowls. The semifinals and final could give an opportunity for other cities to hold a major bowl as well, with the locations rotating in a fashion much like the Super Bowl does each year. That way, the revenue that is brought in by such a big game can be distributed to other cities.
If this would have taken place this year, you would have had the following matchups in the first round.
Ohio State #1 vs Boise State #8
LSU #4 vs USC #5
Michigan #3 vs Louisville #6
Florida #2 vs Wisconsin #7

I find myself hearing this argument every year, almost non-stop. I have found that I really don't care. They say that now you don't get a real champion. But, if you replay a year's NFL playoffs, it probably will come out different. If two top ten teams play each other 10 times one team will not win every time. Pro-basketball and baseball probably come the closest to finding the best team in a given year.
In the end any system that means more football is O.K. with me. Why don't we get outside the box and make the whole season a playoff. First, trash the conferenses. In the summer a committee schedules the first 5 games. They base the schedules on last years records.
Based on the results of the first four games, five more games are scheduled. (you have to give teams at least two week to make travel plans) Match-ups are based on putting equal teams against each other. If you win more than loose over a given period you play tougher teams next go around. After the longest season you can squeeze out. A champion is named, based on win-loss record and strength of schedule. Over 15 games and a mean head-to-head schedule someone will stand out. If not, what are the odds the Steelers would ever get to last years Super Bowl if the play-offs were replayed.
The best part is that fans of Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic and SW Missouri get to watch their teams beat up on each other just like Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas fans do.

The BCS is severely flawed but the ranking system does have merrit. Each week in college football there are big time games that make or break a season. Sadly. . in the NFL. . . teams who go 8-8 will make the playoffs. At least in college football every week means something. I would take the top 8 teams after the season and have a playoff format. These playoff games could still be played in the respective bowls. I would also get rid of Notre Dame completely. . . they suck. . .yet get a big time BCS bowl berth every year. The ranking system will NEVER go away because it generates so much hype and interest. I would not release official ranking until the 5th week of the season however because this would give a more accurate set of rankings at the end of the year. For example. . . . notre dame climbed as high as #2 this year because of their annual hype and severely inflated preseason ranking. If rankings came out in week #5. . . Notre Dame would have started the season UNRANKED and would still be out of the top 25. . . where they certainly do not belong.

It SHOULD be decided through a playoff system. 16 teams, representing 12 conference champions, would take about 1 month. That's just as long as the "Bowl season" lasts.
Why it wont work: The bowl games would disappear. Fans won't travel 3 staight weeks to back thier team to places such as Birmingham, Albuquerque and Pasadena in the chase for a ntational title. Fans are what makes the bowl games work, and without them, the whole college post season would collapse.
Dont expect a playoff anytime soon. DO Expect the BCS to continue in some version (though it is biased to the major powers already).

I believe a playoff definetely needs to be made but with having the top 8 teams make it. There should not be bye weeks in college football.
Boise St. should be in there and you can't leave out USC so I think Oklahoma should be out.
First Round
Ohio St. vs. Wisconsin
Florida vs. Boise St.
USC vs. Michigan
LSU vs. Louisville
2nd Round Predictions
Ohio St. vs. LSU
Florida vs. USC
BSC Championship
Ohio St. vs. Florida
National Champions
Ohio St.

No, I dont see why people feel like they have to have a playoff. Whats wrong with just having bowl games? So it is left controviersial sometimes, what sport isnt? (bad calls, clocks not started at right time, home field, bad weather, injuries, etc.) I say leave everything the same and add one game, COLLEGE SUPERBOWL. they can play the day before NFL's Superbowl. Also how in the world did the one writer put Wisconsin in his 8 team playoff format? 11-1 yea, OVERRATED!!!!! they played nobody, I would pick either Notre Dame or West Virgina, or Arkansas, or Auburn, before them.

I believe the top 8 teams in the country should play in the top 4 bowl games-the Rose,Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar bowls and the winners of these 4 games would play for the title.
1vs.8;2vs7; 3vs6;4vs.5.
