I currently have a Linksys WRT54GT compact router. It works well if you are in the same room, but in a two-story house, forget it. I am constantly being dropped. Also, my dads computer whether it is in the same room or not, stays connected for the most part (the signal gets weak, obviously), however, I have the better computer and better wireless card in my laptop. It seems like when I or any computer other than his connects to the internet, it connects but only for a short time. It drops me every few minutes. I got the Netgear RangeMax Next router WNR834B the other day, but cannot figure out how to set it up. I was easily able to set up several networks with Linksys routers in the past, but with this Netgear router, I am stuck! I out the installation CD in but it keeps telling me that I cannot connect. Any help or EXTREMELY detailed step by step instructions would be GREATLY appreciated. The sooner the better, as I am just home for a few days and want to help my parents out with this!

You computer won't supply much internet to you because your either to far fromt he router or there is not much internet supply left for you. Which means someone is using your internet, you should put a SSD on your router, which is a password. Go to linksys.com, there contact them, they give you an address and you must go there to set up a password. It worked for me.

You might want to check and see if the netgear has firewall functionality that needs to be configured. This is usually done by putting the device on your network, opening a browser and typing in a specific IP address that the router is set to by default. Make sure that if you are running firewall software on your laptop that it is either configured for your new network, or temporarily disabled. You may want to give more detail as to what you are trying to setup. Are you replacing the linksys altogether with the netgear. Are you using DSL or Cable to connect to the Internet. Is your Dad's computer still able to connect with the new equipment in place? When troubleshooting, you need to find something stable to work from. Something you know is working and go from there.

this is available, yet you do no longer want numerous routers on a community attempting to assign IP's on your instruments. you would be wanting to establish numerous switches, no longer routers. In theory, the relationship must be: ***information superhighway Connection***>>Router>>swap>>branch to numerous Switches or get admission to factors on your on the spot, numerous on the spot router's will conflict if using numerous channels, passwords, and so on. Your Server must be linked directly to a swap to allow comfortable bypass administration around the community. remember that your server must be performing because of the fact the DNS, no longer the router. To play it secure you ought to assign the two the Router and your Server a Static IP handle. each and every room ought to have this is very own get admission to ingredient in the event that they seem to be a techniques away...however the development that i'm in we've one 3Com get admission to ingredient for ever 4 rooms that are on the ingredient of one yet another. attempting to get numerous on the spot routers to paintings at the same time isn't hassle-free. yet good good fortune!
