Myrick and Sánchez invented everything, with the exception of Burkettsville, Maryland, for the movie. There was no legend of the 'Blair Witch.'

The Blaie Witch is not real. The movie was made up by those three kids and so was the myth of the Blair Witch. There is a Burkitville, MD though. But there is not a myth of the Blair Witch there. It was completely made up. I know, I was curious about it too and started researching it and found out.

I've been to Burkettsville, MD. My husband used to work about 15 minutes from there and my doctor was less than that.
Trust me. There is absolutely nothing about the Blair Witch that is true. The town is a very lovely town with wonderful, friendly people. The Blair Witch Project is known as a "mock-umentary".

The Blair Witch story was entirely made up by the makers of the movie. It is not based on any actual events, so going to Burkitville is kind of a waste of time.
